Lying Eyes

about

Tim De Cotta is back with his first single off his upcoming “Heart Matter” EP, with a track called ‘Lying Eyes’.

Written from the one of the different perspectives of love that Tim explores in his new EP, he says, “I realised that as I always write songs about love and happiness based on my personal experience of how it's strong and resilient, that I might be missing other experiences of it; so I imagined a darker story, based on a situation where the protagonist catches his significant other cheating.”

Based in late 80s, dance funk and RnB music in the vein of Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown and ‘later-discography’ The Whispers, “Lying Eyes” lays the groove hard right off the bat, pushing every funky knuckle before Tim’s raspy verses enter. The song takes you through a journey from the point where the protagonist feels that something isn’t right, till he finds his worst fears have come through but proceeds to try and rise above it by being strong and moving on; all while dancing it off as the song reaches its groove climaxes.

The song also features the silky and ethereal Rhodes and synthesiser solos of NAzTyKeys, with the tight pocket of Josiah Suthan’s drumming and imaginative percussion parts. Leo Goh from Souldot studios adds the funky guitar icing on the cake, on top of, mixing and mastering this number as well.

“Lying Eyes” is available for listening (and dancing) on all platforms on 24 July 2020.

lyrics

When I heard you say you loved me.
I got the feeling that my heart could burst and open up the sky

When i felt that you could need me
It made soul so warm inside I didn't think it was a lie

But by and by
The way you say that you mean something
Let's me know that maybe Im just not that guy
Oh why
Would you tell me that you love me and then look at me the way you do

(Chorus)
I can see right through your lying eyes
Oh darling can't you tell me why
Does it feel like I'm missing something
When I think I love you but you look at me the way you do

Darling don't you tell me lies
I can tell just by the look in your eyes
I can see that there's something missing
When I think I love you but you look at me the way you do

(Verse 2)
Just the other day I saw you
You were walking with that smile I haven't seen it in awhile
It wasn't me that you held onto
You gave your heart to someone else
And he was looking in your eyes

But by and by
The way you say that you mean something
Let's me know that maybe Im just not that guy
Oh why
Would you tell me that you love me and then look at him the way you do

(Chorus)

(Rap)
I'm back with another one
And yes you got caught with another one
Girl when you say said you love me and no other one
I believed that you could never lead a brother on

So tell me... how you gonna do me that way
When I can't even believe a single word you say
When I saw you holding hands with him that day
Even after you said you'd never go astray

Okay... it's gonna be about me tonight..
I'mma drink and play wii with my boys tonight
We gonna paint the town red and maybe get in a fight
And I'm not gonna give a damn about you tonight...

No I don't gotta
Put up with your drama
You shoulda known better
And now it don't matter

All the late nights
All the lame fights
What gives you the right
Now I'mma say goodnight! Bye!
